Villa Rivercat {More}

Five-piece indie-folk collective Villa Rivercat has shared their first single, ‘More’ (5th October), taken from their forthcoming album Days and Weeks and Hours to be released on the 8th December via NIWI Records (Dream Lake). Having performed at various festivals such as in Tantoklafset located in Stockholm and Peace and Love Festival in their hometown of Borlänge, Villa Rivercat have also held several intimate performances at charming venues like the Cantina Real, or Teater Pero, a performing arts theatre based in Stockholm. The band have also been given the invigorating opportunity to perform live at Pferdefest (Germany) in 2018.

Consisting of musicians and friends Hanna Fideli Fritzell (lead vocals, guitar), William Lindberg (bass guitar, vocals), Ida Säfström (vocals, violin, harmonica), Jonathan Vester (lead guitar) and Karl Geisler (drums, percussion), Villa Rivercat was formed in the deep forests of Dalarna, Sweden during the beginning of 2015. The band continues to perform and showcase their mesmerizing brand of indie-folk around Sweden and beyond. Villa Rivercat are currently preparing to release their debut full-length album to be released in December 2017.

Mainly drawing influence from American-Canadian 60’s country-rock legends The Band and Canadian singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell, Villa Rivercat also list modern artists such as Band of Horses, Fleet Foxes and Father John Misty as influences on their own musical direction and sound.

Their brand new single ‘More’ is a folk-rock journey through an alpine, mountainous region, as sunshine cascades through the leaves of fervent trees. Villa Rivercat demonstrate diverse instrumentation throughout this track, present with melodic guitars, tight drum work and delicate vocal arrangements all blended together to create a unique and sincere experience.

On their single ‘More’, Villa Rivercat had this to say: “'More' is about a young woman who Hanna met at a bar in Malmö who claimed she had escaped from a psychiatric department. She had been hospitalized and weighed 34 kilos, and she said that her face had aged at least ten years in the year she had been ill, and now she was on her way home. It is about to lie and play games and test how far you can go before anyone finds out. It's really a very tragic and unhappy song lyrically, but with a joyful sing-a-long chorus at the end, and the message that there is a friend in the night if one dares to let go of himself and tell someone about his or her demons.”
